Stole Stool
stole: a type of shawl or expensive piece of fabric worn around the shoulders over a party dress or ball gown.
This piece was a collaboration with Haruka Imai.
The Stole Stool was designed as the first prototype of a line of seating intended to emotionally comfort the individual who uses the piece. The piece is fabricated out of Cherry wood, and a wool knit.
Stools are commonly one of the more simplistic typologies in furniture. They generally expose the user to their surroundings more so then other types of seating. We chose to design a stool to address this feeling of exposure. We wanted the user to feel a sense of comfort and security. The bottom of the Stole Stool is upholstered to make a wool knit basket with a blanket inside. The knit can be attached and detached with wooden buttons and allows the fabric to be washed. While sitting on the stool you can also tuck your feet into the fabric to keep them warm. The Stole Stool provides the user with both an emotional and literal security blanket.
